They had a very successful weekend and came home with the winner’s trophy for the SA Interprovincial challenge! The girls also had a very successful SA Champs. Because of their excellent results, their Studio was awarded the Runner-Up trophy for the Studio with the highest overall placings.

The “South African Highland Dancing Champion” is the most sought-after title for any South African highland dancer. The Celtic Dance Tapestry, a Highland and Irish Dancing studio based in the Southern Suburbs, Cape Town was privileged to have 11 of their dancers at this premier event on the Highland Dancing calendar.

Held last month in Johannesburg, and attracting dancers from across the country as well as internationally, the team coached by former SA Champion Hayley Johnston, came home loaded: 7 Section wins, 7 Runners-Up section titles, and a total of 63 medals, as well as winning both the junior and senior group choreography dance categories. They also bought home the Rose Bowl trophy for second highest points score by any studio, and the Alfie Dunn Trophy which they share as the “Coastal provincial team” through an inter-provincial partnership with the Eastern Cape.

A huge thank you to the Western Cape team sponsors Ron Roos from TLC Flooring and Claire Alexander from the Africa Scotland Business Network. Their generous donations provided the cherry on top for the girls, as they donned custom-designed track tops, and enjoyed a weekend where hard work was rewarded, friendships were established and strengthened, and memories of a lifetime were made.

Thank you to sponsors, parents and all who contributed to a wonderful national occasion. You can follow activities of the Official Board of Highland Dancing South Africa, at https://www.facebook.com/obhdsa/
